hair chat. 2010 Trends

After many requests for a hair post... here it is!! I would love to try to do hair chat with julee weekly, but we will just see how it goes!

Ok... so after doing some research, I would have to say that the 2 biggest trends for 2010 would be: long natural waves and mid-length bobs. I will talk about each one of those now...

Long natural waves

I would say this is the perfect example of long natural waves.

There are many versions of this style but you want loose waves that look as natural as possible- bordering bed head. This style needs multiple layers! The middle part is very popular this year but this style can easily be done with a side part.

Some of you may be saying... But Julee, I don't have natural waves! That's ok! I would say both of these lady's hair were styled with a big curling iron. (1 inch or bigger, depending on your length of hair) If you don't have time for that you can use hot rollers.

These are the exact rollers that I use daily! You can get them from Target and I think they are around $30! To use them, roll your hair horizontally with 4 on top and 4 or so on bottom. Then take them out vertically (like a spiral curl). Run your fingers through it and spray with hair spray! If it's too curly, more than likely it will fall out by the time you are dressed and ready to leave. If it doesn't, just keep running your hands through it until you are comfortable with the waves. You can always touch up waves with the curling iron too!

Mid-length bob

I love this style! If I ever cut my hair, this is how I would want it!

Bobs range from ear level to shoulder skimming and are best for straight or slightly wavy hair. This is a little different then your stacked bob. It is stacked a little but the layers in the back are not so short.

This mid-length bob also has many varieties. The length can be determined by you and your face shape. It can be the same length or the back can be a little shorter. The side part paired with swooping bangs is probably the most popular style.

The middle part with the longer bob is a great look as well!

I would say this is one of the best styles for someone with thinner hair. Not many layers (if any) and a long bob, will make your hair look thicker instantly!

Bobs don't always have to be straight! For this look, you will need more layers and you will use your curling iron or rollers to achieve these loose waves.

I know I said I was going to talk about those two style but here are a few others that I wanted to mention!

This is hands down the #1 photo people bring in to show me for hair style requests! To get this look, your hair needs to be cut to hit your collar bones. She has long side bangs and lots of layers!

For a short cut, I think this is precious! This a very choppy layered pixie cut. I could never have my hair this short but I am sure some of you could pull this off!

The popularity of the milkbraid of 2009 has evolved into braided hairstyles in 2010. This is a funny style to me, but I did see it on 90210 this week. I would say it probably will be big with the teenage girls!

And the biggest hair accesory for 2010 is HEADBANDS! If you read my blog, you know I LOVE headbands! (Click HERE to see my headband display post) Everyone needs a headband whether it is has a bow, flower or even plain! :)

In my research for these 2010 trends, some mentioned slicked styled hair. I just could not even imagine slicking my hair down because I am a southern girl that LOVES big hair!

Many more hair post to come that will include:
  • How to style your hair to achieve certain hair styles
  • How to talk to your stylist
  • Great product reviews
  • Hair styles for each face shape
  • Helpful youtube hair styling videos
  • and anything else you request or I can think of related to hair!

Hope this was informative!! If you have any certain requests for hair chat with julee please leave a comment! I am in no way saying I am a hair expert but I love the hair business and if I don't know your answer, I will research it and try to figure it out!

You answered my question, where my hair is thinning the shoulder lengnth bob with not many layers will make it thicker and I am gonna so go that route! Thank you so much for posting this! So cute!

Hi Julee,

I'd love to know how you get your hair so sleek and shiny. I blowdry my hair each time I wash it and even when I use a straightener as well it goes frizzy throughout the day.

Also, what is your usual hair routine?

Thank you for doing this series to help the hair-challenged like me!

Thank you for doing this! This is wonderful! Can you do a post on blowdrying? I can never dry my hair the way my stylist does!
