Video suggestions please!

With our baby girl's arrival coming up, we are in the market for a video baby monitor and a new HD video camera!! If you have one that you absolutely love, please let me know which one it is so I can research it! It's overwhelming with so many choices so any info you have to give, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!!

So excited for you!I got the Nikon D3100 when it first came out. It shoots high quality HD video and takes great pictures. (I wish I had time to learn it a little better) I know a lot of professional videographers, not in news, that are shooting with their DSLR's.

I love the Summer brand video monitors. I wish I had had one of these with my other two girls. It is so nice to be able to see movement and not have to sneak in the room. The monitor works perfect in the dark room and I have never had a problem with interference. My home is fairly large and we have metal studs in the walls, so this has been a blessing. PS ~ sometimes when you think baby is asleep and it is quiet they are really awake...my daughter is 3 1/2 and I can see if she is playing or asleep for her nap. hee hee

I can't wait to see the suggestions for a video camera because we are looking for one, too. As for monitors, I'm thinking about getting the Angelcare monitor. It has a sensor pad that you put under the sheet and the baby sleeps on it. It detects movement and if there is no movement in a certain amount of time, an alarm goes off. My sister had this and it gave her such peace of mind to know that the baby is still breathing. I saw on Babies R Us that there is a new Angelcare monitor that also has video....so all in one. Of course, there were times where the alarm went off but it was a false alarm becaus the baby moved off of the sensor. It's a lot more expensive than just the regular monitor, so I'm debating on whether or not to get it or just go with the handheld monitor and sensor.

At the Blue Eyed Bride's suggestion, I recently bought the Summer iTouch monitor for my toddler (who can't seem to figure out he needs to STAY IN THE BED). I LOVE it. It is perfect. Portable monitor receiver, a talk function so I can tell him to get his heiny back in bed, and it works well during the day and the night. :)

We are also expecting and this was something I have asked my Girlfriends. Hands down it was something they could not live without. My one friend still uses her with her 4 year old & they have a new one. They all said to look for one that has additional cameras could be added later if you have more babies. Everyone seems to love the Summer monitor.

My recommendation for the video monitor is the Levana brand. You can find it at some baby stores and also Amazon and it seems to be on the cheaper end of some of the Summer brand monitors, but I think it's great!

I have a Summer brand video monitor and it got really static-y to the point that we stopped using it because we couldn't sleep. I have a Sony Handicam and a Flip Ultra HD. I like having both. The Flip can fit in your purse and has a USB built in-makes uploading videos a snap. Honestly, I've used it much more than the Sony because it is so convenient to carry. I used to hold my newborn and my Flip in the other hand and take tons of videos. It was also great at the hospital.

We have a Levana Safe n'See video monitor and we love it! For our camera we have a Canon Rebel EOS. It takes great video and pictures and wasn't hard to figure out at all.

I did a ton of research last Christmas for a new HD camcorder and decided on the Panasonic SD60-P based on the great Amazon reviews. I've been very happy with it!

We have this video camera and I love that it's so small. I can carry it anywhere. It also takes great videos!

I have always loved Sony Handicams. I would buy the one with the flash drive so I would have a backup to save. You can never go wrong with Sony.

We have a Summer brand video monitor. I love it b/c you can have multiple cameras connected to one monitor.... We have 3 cameras... one pointing to Kohen's crib, one pointed towards his play area and another camera on Saylor's bed. You can view all camera's from one monitor. When Saylor was born, we bought the most expensive monitor (it was touch screen) and ended up taking it back and getting the Summer brand. We also have the Angel brand monitor that has an alarm sound if the baby stops breathing.... We ended up unplugging it b/c we would always forget to turn it off when we would pick Saylor up to feed her during the night and the alarm would always go off b/c it thought she wasn't breathing. This got really annoying... so once again, we ended up with the Summer brand again! Let me know if your interested and I can send you a pic of the monitor...

I love following your blog even though I have never commented before but thought I might share this baby monitor suggestion. We got the HA Samsung SmartVIEW Baby Video Monitor with 3.5" screen and AV Out/TV as a shower gift. I am actually due with my first around the same time as you (I think you are earlier) but I am amazed how similar our pregnancies are...seems we are both on the same track even down to the weight gain! Except we are having a boy =) ANYWAY my husband tested out the monitor & it seems to be really nice. It has had GREAT reviews & found that some video monitors had cautions because they could pick up interferance with other monitors & video other parents kids (kinda creepy!) SO this one specifies the safety & has neat features that show the video not only on the hand held but TV & computer, plus extra cameras if you prefer! It can even be used for Skype with family & friends. We are excited to use it...if you do go with something else, make sure it says no interference & has the safety feature =) So excited to keep up with you these next FEW weeks!
