Preslee's 1st month

Getting closer to being caught up! Better late than never...

Things to remember about Preslee's first month:
  • You had trouble gaining weight this month but by 4 weeks you were a little over 7 pounds. You got down to 6.3 & stayed at 6.7 for over a week.
  • We had to supplement with formula/or expressed breast milk after nursing for a week because of your poor weight gain.
  • You had jaundice but after getting your bowels going, it went away quickly! :)
  • You started out in premie diapers and few premie clothes but within the first 2 weeks you were wearing newborn diapers and newborn clothes.
  • You are breastfeeding even though its a challenge. You are nursing every 3 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night. I have to wake you in the night to make sure that you are eating enough to gain weight. We are both very tired during those night feedings!
  • You sleep on the nap nanny (incline) inside the cradle, beside our bed! I hear all your noises so I don't sleep well.
  • You are pretty fussy baby and only have a few content times during the day.
  • You don't like the swing or bouncy seat but LOVE laying on your changing pad!
  • We try to give you a pacifier but you just don't seem to like it.
  • We think you have great head & neck control for such a tiny baby!
  • Your grandmothers have been helping with us all month and they love to rock you to sleep!
  • You made your first road trip to Arkadelphia.
  • We celebrated your first Christmas and New Years.
  • Your brother Romeo seems to really be ok with you being in our house. He doesn't like when you cry really hard and will come running in the room to look at you!
Preslee- You are the most beautiful baby girl we have ever seen! We can't believe you are ours and can't wait to see how you grow each month!

My daughter is 2 now but when she was a baby she was soo fussy. All my family still talks about how much she cried..we tried nursing, lots of different formulas, she didn't like the swing, bouncy seat, riding in the car...just liked momma to walk around bouncing. We tried gripe water, 2 different kinds of reflux medicine...if someone told me "oh such and such helped my baby" then I tried it. I use to think why is MY baby the fussy one..how can all these OTHER moms that their newborns out and about...I can't even go to the bathroom..much less out to eat or to see friends. Anyways, now she's happy and content..still not sure why she was so fussy but I just wanted to let you know that I've been there...my grandma once said about her kids "I'd shake them off my leg just to get away for a few minutes then break my neck trying to get back to them". I've felt that way lots of times...ha. God Bless...she's a cutie!!

You might want to try a MAM pacifier. They make really tiny ones for newborns! I had to go through five or six other kinds until I figured out that that was the only pacifier my fussy girl would take. You're doing great! She's gorgeous!

She looks SO tiny in that last picture! My 2nd little one (who is 5 months now) sounded SO similar to her in almost every way. He also hated the swing and bouncy but LOVED the changing pad/table. He still does. Good luck, girl! I know how hard it is.

PS. My little ALSO would NOT take a paci. We upsized to a bigger nipple (6 months+) and he took to that very well. This was when he was that little. You might could try that...

Julee! Preslee is such a cutie! Try putting Preslee on her belly while she is sleeping...I had my son 12 wks early (1 lb. 12oz.) and he LOVED to sleep on his belly when he came home. We slept on ours when we were babies...if you aren't comfortable at night try during the day with her and see how she is, before you know it you both will be sleeping thur the night!
My daughter would have slept thur the night the day we brought her home too. I had to get up every 3 hours to nurse also. I was exhausted within the first week. After Elsie gaining some weight by supplementing and pumping...I would just let her sleep(even thoug her ped said to wake her.) She gained enough through the weeks and we both got some sleep! Good luck and enjoy Preslee, they grow so quick!!!

I was just going to add that you should keep trying with a pacifier if you want her to take one. Our son took to it like a pro at two days old and never looked back. It took our daughter until she was about three months old to take hers but now she's pretty good with it. As others have suggested you might also want to try different kinds.

And hang in there, things do get better. The first few months are definitely the hardest and you're almost through them :)
