hair chat. Blondes

Ok blondies... I am talking to you today! The first step toward an attractive blond hair style is choosing the right color. There are hundreds of shades of blond hair from creamy light golden tones to ashy blondes with low lights. If you are a natural blonde, examine your color and see if you would like it lightened or highlighted. Natural blond hair darkens over time, and many blondes opt for mild treatments to keep naturally bright shades.

When choosing a blonde shade, particularly if you have naturally dark hair, be sure to match the color to your skin tone. Very pale skin may look washed out against a bright blonde, whereas darker skin is best complimented by warmer hair colors.

Foil highlights add strands of color to your hair by adding multiple different shades in the hair to make it look for natural. Low-lights allow stylist to add darker shades to the hair to give more contrast.

Consider adding highlights to create depth and texture in the hair, but use two or three highlight colors to avoid a streaked, patchwork look. Choosing highlight colors close to your natural shade will keep the style colorful longer as your natural color grows back in over time. But you can ask for lighter pieces around your face to brighten your complexion.

If you have brown hair and want to go blonde, you don't want to go too light or you could look washed out. Opt for contrast: Highlights and lowlights. And keep in mind that darker hair will actually complement brown or green eyes better than blonde hair.

A combination of light blonde highlights and warm- toned lowlights create a nice multi-tonal blonde.

Reese has a perfect blonde. She probably has 2-3 different blondes foiled in to achieve this natural blonde look.

Gwenyth has such beautiful blond hair. She has more of an ash blonde mixed in with her highlights.

Platinum blonde is not for everyone and can be hard to maintain because it can only be achieved by bleaching and toning the hair. Platinum is normally best for shorter hair styles because of the damage bleaching hair to this degree causes. The ends of long hair have been around and exposed to the elements for at least a year or 2. Deep conditioning is a must for platinum blondes!

Gwen Stefani is no natural blonde, but these days she's going darker than she's been in the past. Because her hair is naturally much darker, she has to get all-over color, rather than highlights.

Last few things...
  • Keep in mind that due to root growth, all-over coloring will need to be touched up every four to eight weeks, while highlights can last up to two or three months, depending on what kind you get.
  • If you're coloring your hair blonde, consider having your eyebrows lightened.

  • Keep the brassy tones out of your blonde hair style by using a color depositing shampoo and conditioner. The conditioners work the best because they don't contain cleansing agents and can be left on the hair for long periods. The longer they're left on and more often they're used, the more pigment is deposited onto your hair strand. (Purple takes the yellow out of hair)
Many brands have color support shampoo and conditioner but of course I think Bumble and bumble's is the best! As you can see from the picture above color support isn't just for blondes. If you color tends to fade to a certain shade that you don't like, then these color support shampoo/conditioners will be your new best friend!

Hope this was somewhat helpful and not too confusing! Like always, you can email me with questions and I will try to answer them as best I can!

hair chat. beach hair

I will be honest... I am all out of ideas this week's for hair chat. So I am going to just tell you about 3 Bumble and bumble products that can help you have cute beach hair for the summer!

This is what I would call "Beach Hair- but not from the beach". The waves that your hair naturally gets when you are sitting on the beach with the humid warm breeze! Don't you want to be on a beach right now? I sure do!

Some of you may have naturally wavy hair and some may have board straight. Well, we all want what we don't have. But these 3 products from Bumble and bumble can hopefully help you achieve this look!

Surf Spray is very popular and I have seen it in many magazines for summer hair! The spray is a salt-infused styling spray for fullness, hold and cool matte finish. This can be used on wet or dry styles!

This product will add texture and lots of volume with a very light hold. It contains moisturizing seaweed extract and give hair a sexy, sun-dried, wind swept styles whenever you want!

Now for those of you with hard to handle, thick or wavy hair... this Grooming creme could help you get beach waves. It's a styling moisturizer that adds texture, give hair natural separation and subtle hold. Just a warning: a little bit goes a long way and you don't want to use too much or you will have to start over!

This is probably one of my favorite Bumble products. Brilliantine is a hair polish that provides body and shine allowing you to style your hair in many ways. It provides great separation and texture which is needed for beach hair. Brilliantine reduces dryness, leaving hair soft.

I am not saying you need all THREE of these products to achieve beach hair. I just wanted to give you some suggestions to check out if you are going to the beach this summer or just trying to have beach hair during the hot summer at home!

Now this is some great beach wave hair!

GOOD LUCK! :)

Awesome Saturday!

Here are the highlights from an awesome Saturday with my mom!!

First we shopped, shopped and shopped! I.O. Metro store and their outlet, T.J.Max, Target, Warren's shoes, Francesca's, Bath and Body Works, Victoria Secret, and Sephora... Whew! I think I named them all! Speaking of Sephora...

I got some Tan Towels!! I can't wait to try these. I will let ya know how they work!

We ended our afternoon with a trip to BLISS Cupcakes Cafe!

I got one of these... Marshmellow Brownie.

And I one of these... Confetti Funfetti!

This place is DELICIOUS! And the scary part is, it is about a block from my Salon! I am already looking forward to returning back for more cupcakes!

For dinner, my Dad grilled hamburgers! While in NYC, mom and I ate this amazing spicy corn. I searched online for the recipe and found one that I think it pretty similar. So I made it to go with the burgers and it was really good!

Wanted to share the recipe with you just in case you might love corn and spice as much as I do! :)

  • Mexican style (Spicy) Corn on the cob
  • 4 ears corn on the cob, husked
  • mayonnaise
  • shredded parmesan cheese
  • cayenne pepper, depends on how hot you like it (to taste)
  • 1 piece bread (this is for ease of putting mayo on corn)

Directions

  1. 1
Roast the corn on a charcoal grill just until tender and you have nice grill marks.
  2. 2
Liberally spread mayo on piece of bread.
  3. 3
Roll hot ears on the bread.
  4. 4
    Sprinkle parmesan cheese on.
  5. 5
Sprinkle cayenne pepper on (to taste).
I hate that I didn't get to see my mom on Mother's Day. But we had such a great time today so we are just making this her Mother's Day! :)

Price of Beauty

I have been watching VH1's Price of Beauty with Jessica Simpson. Have you? It's really a good show! I think it's so interesting to see what these other cultures do to and what they think is beauty. So while on the topic, I decided to pick 10 women that I think are just beautiful! This is all about outside beauty! I think inner beauty is actually more beautiful that outer beauty but since I don't know any of these women personally, I am judging them solely their looks. :)

Starting with the brunettes...

Aishwarya Rai has been named "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD"!! She is one of Bollywood's biggest movie stars.

Elizabeth Hurley has always been one of my favorite beauty idols!

Who can say these 'Friends' aren't beauitful?!

I know some people may not agree... but to me, Angelina is seriously one of the most beautiful women!

I dream about looking like Catherine Zeta Jones at her age!! :)

Now to the blondes...
I think Reese is just gorgeous! I wish I was her friend in real life.

It was hard to find a picture of Marissa Miller with full clothes on! HAHA! She is my favorite Victoria Secret model. And if I had to guess... She would be Matt's favorite in this list! :)

I have always loved Jessica! She had to make the list since her show gave me the idea for the post!

Carrie has come so far from her American Idol days and each day, she gets more beautiful!

This post was just for fun and because I haven't had much to blog about lately. I think I judge outside beauty based on hair, eyes and their smiles.

How do you judge beauty? Who are your beauty idols?

Reasons to blog...

I started this blog to share our life with family and friends. There will be many infertility updates for sure... but I want to keep blogging about all the random things I've written about in the past!

1. Matt...and all our adventures/fun things we do together will continue to be on the blog! We have been together for 9.5 years and I love him more and more each day!

2. Romeo will make many appearances on the blog! How could he not with this sweet face?! Plus when we do have a baby, this poor boy may never get any face time! ha! :)

(Funny story... I had Matt proof read this before I posted and I got in trouble and Matt got his feelings hurt because Romeo was initially first on the list! HAHA!)

3. Our family is so important to both of us! I love when I can blog about our special time with them.

4. Friends... Matt and I have so many amazing friends! Now that Matt is having some better days, we can't wait to start hanging out with them again and making more memories in the process.

5. Hair, products and fashion. I've always been a very girly girl and I love to shop!! I love reading other people's blogs on their favorite products, so I plan to write more posts about all kinds of lovely female things!

6. Of course, infertility will be discussed on my blog more frequently since I have finally shared our story. But I don't want this to turn into a sob story blog about our infertility. I find a lot of comfort and wisdom in reading about other's infertility struggles. So I will continue to blog about my issues, in hope that I can be encouraging to others!

So that's the basic outline for this blog, but I'm sure there will be days when I won't have anything interesting to talk about. If there's anything else you would like to know about us or want me to blog about, feel free to leave me a comment! :)

One last thing... I went to the movies last night with some blogger friends! Some of them I knew and some I met for the first time. It was so fun to finally meet them in person, although I feel like I already knew them from their blogs! The group of about 8 of us met in Rogers and saw 'Dear John'.

I was expecting to cry a lot in this movie, but I actually didn't. I could have cried during a few parts but I really enjoyed this movie! It made me want to read the book to find out more. It was just such a sweet love story. And I sure can't complain about getting to look at Channing Tatum for 2 hours!

Hope everyone has a happy Friday!

Bumble and bumble

OK... so many of you ask about Bumble and bumble... Please ALWAYS buy Bumble from a professional salon or from www.bumbleandbumble.com! Stores such as Target, Walmart, Walgreens, etc. have gotten ahold of the products that have been diverted! Read the statement below from Bumble's website...

We are very careful about where we sell Bumble and bumble, and we choose only the finest salons, apothecaries and shops - places with friendly hairdressers and salespeople who LOVE hair and who LOVE Bumble and bumble. We do this because we make our products to be sold by experts who know our products up and down, backwards and forwards, inside and out.

But sometimes our bottles end up in places that are unauthorized to sell our products. Places we didn't choose, such as mass market drug and supermarket chains. Its important to us that our customers purchase the real Bumble and bumble (not counterfeit, or old or discontinued Bumble and bumble), so that every time you buy one of our bottles, or tubes or jars, it is filled with the same, authentic stuff for your hair you’ve come to love – we’re sure you will agree.

So, for the love of hair (and Bumble and bumble), PLEASE don't buy Bb. where it shouldn't be!

The owner of my salon went to Walmart and bought a few of the products to compare! They are bad!! They don't smell the same nor do they do what they are supposed to do! Just wanted to put that info out there for all of you!

Also, Bumble is revising their therapy line and the new stuff should be on shelves very soon! I will update you about it soon! It's awesome!

Check out www.bumbleandbumble.com to learn more about the products and to find a salon near you that carries Bumble and bumble!

Makeup, skin care and hair!

This week over at Kelly's Korner "Show us your life" its all about Skin and hair! I decided I should share my input since I am in the beauty world myself! :) I could probably write a whole blog on this subject, (which I am considering doing) but for now these are a few of my favorite things!
During beauty school, I got hooked on Dermalogica skin products. Then my mom became an esthetician and used/sold this line in the spa. It's a little on the higher end side of skin products so I just use the basics.

First I always cleanse with the SPECIAL CLEANSING GEl. Then follow with the SKIN SMOOTHING CREME.

This product is by far my favorite! Its a perfect moisturizer for all year long! It leaves your face feeling so smooth!
I use a few other Dermalongica products but these are the two must haves!

I have used BeautiControl makeup for probably 15 years! My mom started selling this when I was in jr. high! We were laughing at work the other day because I never wore Clinque makeup like every other teenage does!

Beauti Control is a beauty company that specializes in Spa treatments, personalized skin care and advanced anit-aging products through a unique at-home spa experience. Meaning you can't buy this at any store and is sold by individuals that sell this out of their house! I have thought many times about selling it! Everyone that tries it likes it!

My first favorite BeautiControl product is the SECRET AGENT liquid foundation. It has great coverage without being too thick.

Then my absolute favorite is the WET/DRY FINISHING POWDER! I always use a dry sponge and it just the smoothest powder I have ever used! It covers well and can be used with the liquid or by itself! It's a serious must have!

I am never satisfied with any brand of mascara! I truly think I have tried every one! But right before Christmas I was in Sephora and the consultant there introduced me to DIOR ICONIC. I LOVE IT! She also explained to me that if you use more than one mascara, that is called mascara ward-robing.

So on days when I want a my lashes to be even longer and thicker, I use DIORSHOW BLACKOUT! Its an extreme black mascara that is amazing!

I love lip gloss! One day my mom bought me this LANCOME TUMULTUOUS LIP GLOSS and I don't think I have ever loved a lip gloss this much! It does cost $27 for a tube but I have no words for how amazing this product is! I will never be with out it!!

I could go on and on and will probably write another post soon about hair. But I had to choose at least one hair product to add to my faves!

When I moved to Fayetteville and started working at my salon, I had never heard of Bumble and bumble! I was instantly hooked and have all my friends and family calling me to send them more! It's a big line of hair care products and I use it every day on myself and every client that sits in my chair!
This really works! If you want big hair... this is the shampoo for you! It doesn't matter if you have thick, thin or in between hair. This shampoo/conditioner combo are my all time favs!

Then if you add the THICKENING SPRAY before you blow dry... You will be sure to have the voluptuous hair you have always wanted!!

Hope you all enjoyed learning my favorite skin and hair products! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!

Have a great weekend!

Dry Skin?!?

Ok... I have seriously dry skin in the winter! Don't y'all?? I think I have tried just about every kind of moisturizing soap and lotions on the shelf. And I really don't like slathering my body in lotion after each shower so I find myself looking for soaps that will help! I think I have finally found the the answer!

I found this at Walmart last night. Its OLAY Winter Retreat!

Followed by this... OLAY In-shower body lotion! My mom had this in her shower last time I was home so I picked some up for myself. It's some good stuff!

Hope these tips may help any of you with dry skin like mine!

Happy Moisturizing! :)

Headband Lady

So I admitted the other day that I have an obsession with headbands! (And I even got another one yesterday!) I think I am up to 15 headbands and that brings up the issue...

What do you do with that many headbands?

While at a boutique I looked to see how they displayed their headbands. They had a great idea and I decided to try it for my collection! They had 3 toilet paper rolls and then put fabric around it. I ended up using a big paper towel roll and I even had some cute black and white fabric to wrap around it! I thought it turned out so cute and I am excited to be able to see all the headbands!!

This is the finished product!

Here is how I did it... Start with a paper towel roll.

Then wrap with cute fabric.
Tuck the fabric in ends.

Tada! And there you have it ladies... Go ahead and do it for yourself too! :)

The rest of the week will probably be pretty quiet on my blog because my 2 best friends from college are coming to stay at my house for a long weekend! I am so excited! I can't wait to spend some good quality time with them!! I am sure we will take lots of pics and I will be blogging it next week!!

Have a great Halloween weekend!!!
